Campus Life Services & UL Chaplaincy Fundraising Sleep Out

Thursday January 01, 2015

Village Management from Campus Life Services at University of Limerick are holding a sponsored sleep out this Thursday 26 November in conjunction with UL Chaplaincy in a bid to raise vital funds and awareness to support the work that Focus Ireland do in Limerick.

Campus Life Services at University of Limerick manage five Villages on campus, providing accommodation for nearly 2,700 students.

“In the current economic climate and with the build up to Christmas, we are fully aware of how lucky we all are to have a roof over our heads and that others may not be as lucky. As we provide such a large amount of accommodation to the students of the University, we felt that linking up with Focus Ireland to promote the fantastic work that they do in Limerick, was the perfect match for us” stated Ellen Fitzmaurice, Manager of Residences at UL.

“The team will be sleeping outside from 9pm to 9am in the Student Centre Courtyard at University of Limerick on 26 November. We will be asking for the support of all the staff and students at the University to ensure that we can make the most of the sleep out, no matter what the weather has planned for the night and to highlight that not everyone will be as comfortable as us this Christmas. We are hoping that the awareness and funds that we raise will make a difference to as many people as possible in the Limerick region”.

Focus Ireland works with people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes across Ireland. They offer advice, support, education and housing to help people to have and keep a home. They believe that everyone has a right to a place they can call home.

To date, we have raised €10,000 for this great cause. If you would like to sponsor the Village Management team at University of Limerick for their sleep out, then you can do so on  University of Limerick – 12 Hour Sleep Out or in any of the Village Receptions across the campus at University of Limerick.
